OPENING RECEPTION: THURSDAY, MAY 1, 2014 6 - 10 pm
A squashed foam fold-up, sandwich-folds, fibrous, foam-colors pink-green-bluey. It has always been there. Every day it’s in a slightly different state, less sodden, heavier, more insubstantial, sour. John Hurt via Beckett’s ‘Krapp’ shuts off the reel-to-reel, sheltering the machine with an arm arc. The running device or internal motor. A shift, sudden light, apparent and immediate fact of something still there. Like a chair, like a resting face, like a sore molar.
I love to get up and move about in it, then back here to . . . (hesitates) . . .(pause.)…
Samuel Beckett, Krapp’s Last Tape

In Kim Neudorf's work, the trace, the stain, and the residue of the painting process are modes of delivery just as they are spaces of thought. Coagulated, ingrown marks become the central actors in material and textual situations. What begins as the illusion of an image is then carried out through a process in which the interior and exterior are nonlinear and porous. The point for Neudorf is not to ask viewers to solve the paintings, but to develop relationships with them over time. Ultimately, she invites viewers to experience the work on their own terms.
KIM NEUDORF
Kim Neudorf received her MFA at Western University in London, Ontario in 2012 and her BFA from the Alberta College of Art & Design in 2005.
Her paintings have exhibited at Susan Hobbs Gallery in Toronto; SCOPE Basel, Switzerland; Katzman Kamen Gallery, Toronto; The Art Gallery of Alberta; The Art Gallery of Hamilton; The Power Plant Centre for Contemporary Art in Toronto; Trianon Gallery, in Lethbridge, Alberta; Art Mûr, Montreal; and in Calgary at Skew Gallery, The Glenbow Museum and the Illingworth Kerr Gallery.
Neudorf is the recipient of the SSHRC Joseph-Armand Bombardier CGS Master’s Scholarship and the Western Graduate Research Scholarship at Western University and has received a project grant from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts.
She has contributed writing to Susan Hobbs Gallery, Cooper Cole, Forest City Gallery, Hamilton Arts & Letters, Truck Gallery, Evans Contemporary, Stride Gallery, FFWD Magazine, The Thames Art Gallery, and is Akimbo's London (ON) correspondent.
In the winter of 2005, she attended the Optic Nerve Thematic Residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts and in 2011 she was named one of 15 semi-finalists in the prestigious 13th RBC Canadian Painting Competition representing central Canada.
Born in Saskatoon, Kim Neudorf currently lives in London, Ontario where she teaches, writes and maintains her studio practice.
EVANS CONTEMPORARY
Evans Contemporary is dedicated to the presentation of creative projects by national and international contemporary artists. Located in Peterborough, Ontario, the privately owned and funded gallery exhibits work by emerging, established, and unknown artists of all ages, as well as work from the gallery's private collection. Situated on the ground floor of a 1907 Edwardian house, the gallery's aim is to launch unique exhibitions in an intimate, salon style setting and allow artists to present new works and projects that transcend the trends of the commercial visual art market.
