PAOLO FORTIN
NOT TO SEE THE SUN
Polite Society is pleased to announce the launch of Not to See the Sun, an exhibition of new paintings by Paolo Fortin.
The presentation of Fortin’s work introduces a hint of the darkness, and apathy, in which society continues to cycle. His somber, heavy paintings executed in tar and oil speak of a broken moral compass, and the residue of chaos in our world. Taking cues from the root causes, and systems that feed humanity’s lack of empathy, the work offers up an aura of the degraded human spirit.
PAOLO FORTIN
Paolo Fortin’s practice draws upon the arbitrary absorption of images in our daily lives, and speaks of the ethereal impressions, and sentiment that surround our existence. He addresses the fatigued, muddled, and fleeting, moments, where the tangible world is displaced and is infused with insubstantial sensation and ambiguity. His paintings and sculptural objects are seeped in the act of dilution, and can be read as images seen from the peripheral. He maintains studios in Toronto, and Peterborough, ON, and is the founder and director of Polite Society (formerly Evans Contemporary).
